You gotta pick your spots and sail in between drops! I sailed both Friday and Sunday last weekend. On Sunday we hit a whopping 6.5 kt max speed. Didn't get that fast on Friday. Still, if you have a sailing Jones, you gotta enjoy just playing with the things in the tiny breeze we get in winter. Bring one of your boats to Benicia and we'll go out-your boat or mine or both...I won't keep up well with the Getaway, but still...

I don't think we ever had a winter down here in Houston..

Working on getting the boat set-up; our Wednesday Night Races start next week!

It is blowing temptingly here in the Central Valley, as well... I think I'm going to go get the boat wet at Lake Natomas on Friday afternoon. Since there's a dam on either end of it, there should be very little flood-flotsam. The down side is that it is also a damn narrow lake, but with Folsom winds predicted to be blowing from NNW at 18 (gusts to 23!) and temperatures into the mid-high 60s, I think it is time to knock some winter dust off my H18. Enough with the web-sailing, I wanna get wet!

Randii, I'm planning on sailing tomorrow in the Carquinez on my Getaway. Light winds predicted but temps in the 70s. http://windalert.com/spot/116569

You are welcome to sail with me on my Getaway or bring your own boat and I'll try to keep up. Long freeway drive for you, though. But thought I'd tender the invite.

We had some 70 degree days in February and March! Unfortunately, the lakes I sail on in Wisconsin were still frozen over.

I appreciate the invite... I wish I could have come. This week has kicked my butt at work with team restructuring and... well, and a whole lot of stressful non-sailing-related BS. At the end of the week, I'll not have made it out at all, and I'm currently watching big wind out the window. This day job is interfering with my sailing!

So I will be yard-sailing this weekend, which is probably wise anyway. A test-rig at the beginning of the season, a detailed once-over on sails and lines. It is easier to make it to the hardware or marine store when not on the water, right? I'll also test my wetsuit and dry gear to see if it still fits my ... upgraded personal flotation. :p I have a new drytop that I probably need to take a few rings off of so that it fits comfortably (less chokingly).

Randii (still excited, but also pretty damn tired)

Yah, today is kick butt wind here in N.CA. I'm busy today building a spin for the Getaway. Yesterday I reconfigured the boat for summer winds (more mast rake, jib tack closer to furler). It is good to be retired if you like playing with boats. Even though I have a reef installed, I won't sail the Getaway solo if the forecast is for winds above 15-especially if I'm trying new stuff (which is most of the time). Weekend looks like Quetzalcoatl is turning off the big wind and it looks like light stuff for the coming week.

There's a rumor that a Hobie Formula 18 will be racing with the keelboats on Thursday beercans here in Benicia. They used to have a multihull fleet (I actually instigated the practice with my F 24-for a while we actually had 4 active f24s racing).
