| Post subject: | 2017 Galveston Bay Catamaran Championship video |
A friend and I raced my Tiger in the Galveston Bay Catamaran Championship a couple weeks ago and I just wanted to share a quick clip from Saturday's racing (long distance course). Racing was held off El Jardin Beach which is located southeast of Houston. Conditions in the bay were choppy and blowing. The way that kite failed - looks like it's kept on the boat rigged with the head of the kite just peaking out of the snuffer - prolonged exposure and UV degrade the fabric - bummer (put your sails away - it takes just a few minutes to re-rig, but they'll last so much longer!) PS: Fun Video! |

Thanks for the tip Jacques. I think the kite was original and is well worn (but still felt like it had some life left). Not sure what the previous owners did but I always pull my sails off and store them indoors when not in use. The unfortunate part is that I had the kite repaired but then it tore again during our local beer can races the same day I got it back from the shop! The second tear was similar to the first but larger and further down on the sail - luckily it didn't completely separate, though. Probably time to retire this kite... |
