McLube (or equivalent dry silicone spray) is your friend. Particularly around the 'mouth' of the spinnaker ring.
We will lube the mouth every two weeks or so, and also the spin itself about once a month. You want the retrieval to be slick and smooth, you should not be 'fighting' the spin.
On a good day of racing, the 'raise' takes my crew about 8 seconds, the 'retrieve' about 10 seconds...... not counting prep time.....
