| Post subject: | Tiger Tuning Guide - Loos Gauge |
Does anyone know what model Loos guage was used to come up with the numbers that Mich Booth references in his 2006 tuning guide. I assume it was based on a standard Loos Tension Gauge and not a Loos Professional Gauge. The reason I ask is that guys in our fleet are getting readings of 15 points difference between the two different gauges. We are running 36 for the diamond tension on the standard Loos and doing really well with the leeward diamond just starting to go slack in moderate breeze - so that leads me to belive that we are OK using the standard guage. If anyone knows and could let me know it would be appreciated. Cheers, Paul |

A friend helped me measure mine and we are running 36 on what I'm pretty sure was the pro gauge. I think for the standard you should be somewhere in the 40's..? I'm in the process of reconfiguring my computer so I can't open PDF's yet, but scroll down to the "Taming your Tiger" thread and check that out; there's a part in there about this. |

I use somewhere around 46 or 47 on the silver colored Loos Gauge, that is about 700 lbs. The black one does not have a scale that goes that high so I have not used it as much. I should put in on the diamonds after I adjust with the silver so I get a reference point. Dan |

Dan So what I am seeing is that on the standard gauge (silver), 36 equates to about 15 on the Pro (black). I have generally been tuning by the silver loos, mainsail shape, tip deflection and the tension of the leeward shroud. We have been quick so far but I may bump the rig tension up a few turns based on your input. Thanks... |
