Post subject:  Hull Registration numbers?

I am curious, in all the pictures of Hobie Cats that I see online, I can’t remember EVER seeing one with hull registration numbers on them. What’s up with this? I have reviewed the DOL's section on boat registration ( http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistrati ... rboat.html ) and don’t see where the cats are exempt. Can somebody explain this? I have purchased a used Hobie 18 and will be licensing the trailer & registering the hulls soon and want to know what I am getting into. The Hobie Cat in question spent its entire life on a privately owned lake and according to the previous owner, the cat had never been registered before.

Not every state requires them (but most do for boats that size).

Some people don't ever register them (like the previous owner of your boat). You take your chances with the [insert name of enforcement agency in your state].

I live in Washington and haven't registered any of my past Hobies, and only titled one.
(H16, H17, Tiger, FX One, Tiger, 80' H14, H 18, 'or H 14) Still have the last three.

Never been an issue so far, although, 75% of sailing has been at regattas.
Note: always had insurance on Hobies at the time.
