Hobie Fleet 120 is proud to announce Hobie Midwinters east 2009! MWE will be at Carl Gray Park in Panama City, FL (same venue as last year)
The dates are March 27th, 28th, 29th. We are working out the details for parties, dinners and what not right now, this economy is causing some places to cut back hours or close all together.

Our very own Matt Bounds will be the PRO so you can be assured of very well run races on the water and fleet 120 will dazzle you on land.

So plan on being in Panama City the last weekend in March for some great sailing and good ole' southern hospitality!

camping is available here but spots book fast, very fast! http://www.floridastateparks.org/StAndrews/

We are hoping for the following fleets
H16A
H16B
H17
H18
H20
Wave

I know it looks like I just put most of the fleets down but we have gotten great responses from several people in each class already.

Can the race course be reached from the campground launch or would it be to far to sail to the race?

I am considering coming down with my Wave for the start of my Spring Break.

Thanks,
Mark White

Matt- will there be a handicap class for the bastard boats? Hobie only obviously.

It would be to far to sail. You could leave your boat at the race site over night with the rest of the fleet if you like.

Officially, no. I'd probably start you with the Tigers / 20's (depending on how many there are) and if you want, I'll keep time so you can see how you did on Portsmouth.

If you can get three FX-Ones there, then you can have a class. That's a pretty low bar.

Ultimately, it's up to Brad how many trophies he wants to make.

trophies will be made for all pre registered boats. We do have an FXone in panama city!

just an update on MWE preparations:

everything is running very smoothly on our end. we are getting good interest in Hobie waves and H16 b fleets.

I talked with Rick white today and we are looking into a sailing seminar in conjunction with this event.
Would those interested in the seminar want a Hobie guest expert program or a full blow Rick White seminar?

I probably only have time for the (1 day?) Expert program, since Rick's seminars are 3 or 4 days?

Okay Who's in. Time to start beating the drums for your fleets.

Hobie 20's seem to have lots of interest
Hobie waves with Rick White pushing them will have a good turn out
H18 and Steven will surely make a good showing
H16..... well they'll be here

i've not heard much noise from the 17 guy or tigers. We always have a hand full of 17's

Karl, we do have one FX one in town so find another and make Matt eat his words on the 3 boat class

I was hoping someone around here would pick up that FXone in South Carolina. So far no go. Another problem is I don't know if I'll be able to make it down there myself.

I'm coming and I was going to ask Brad if I could leave a boat on his lawn for the week prior to the event for some practice. So I'll be there and I wish so other 16's will come down early for some group practice.

My yard is there for anyone needing it. We can hold 40 or so boats the more the better

we had a slight hic up in MWE accommodations. The city denied out request for over night RV's, in fact they don't want any rvs during the day, we are working diligently to get this resolved. I will keep everyone posted, this is an election year however no one is running again so they are less than caring.

Brad,

What about parking in the college ( or whatever it is ) parking lot that was located just across the street?

Doesn't affect me, IF I can come, I wouldn't be bringing the MH anyway.

Just thinking there's got to be more than one way to skin that cat.

Dangle the carrot of all the money the regatta brings to the entire community, Check with Chris Wessles on the formula that Chambers of Commerce use to calculate that number.

Also remind them that if THIS event goes well there is always the possibility of bringing a North American Championship to the City which would bring many more people and $$$$.

Best of luck in your quest, Regardless of where Motorhomes are parked, I have no doubt that it will be an outstanding event again this year.

Stephen
