Post subject:  Racing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- is Etobicoke the place

I'm currently flirting with buying a Hobie and was just wondering what the recreational (beer cans) racing scene is like?

I searched the forums and saw a reference to a fleet in Etobicoke but I couldn't find anything specific about the fleet. I did notice that the latest 3 members we're two Getaways and a 16.

Any pointers or inside knowledge appreciated.

thanks in advance
CB

Etobicoke is the place. Hobie Fleet 183. Contact Dan Borg at Dan_Borg(at)toyota.ca

They have a great dry sail area with mast-up storage, bathrooms, showers, etc.

They host a HCA Sanctioned Regatta the first weekend in June.

Fanshawe Yacht Club in London, ON has a small fleet of 16s and some Darts.

they have a beach area for the Cats, Chalet complete with Washroom, Kitchen and there is a shower near by.

They host several Regattas including a Wednesday "rec league".

I really enjoy it out there. Its an inland lake so you can sail pretty much anytime, even when the Great lakes are too rough.

Heres a link to there web site http://www.fyc.on.ca/

You should let them know that there is a Hobie points regatta coming up in less than two weeks at Port Burwell Provincial Park. That's less than an hour's drive away.

NOR is here.

All Hobie Cats are welcome.

That regatta sounds like a blast but I am too much of newby right now. I will get to Port Burwell to watch though.

Don't worry about being a n00b. You have to start somewhere.

We already have a 16 C fleeter (novice) registered.

Bring your boat - you'll get it tuned up for free! :D

Don't want to hijack the post or anything, but I'm in Orillia.. just a couple hours north of Toronto. Is Fleet 183 the closest one to me then?

There used to be a fleet on Lake Simcoe, but it's not listed as active anymore.

If you get 4 other Hobie owners together, you can re-activate it!

Thats what we at fleet 444 did. We, (read I), wanted a points event in Minnesota, so we re-activated an inactive fleet. Our regatta this weekend gained us 4 new fleet members. Our fun events have also gained some interest and a few new members as well.
