How did your Division do?
(are all the scores in yet and final?)

In advance of the Hobie Div. 4 (NW) AGM, I thought it would be interesting to put together how the local sailors fared in their respective class. Not all the results are complete, but it was still a fun exercise.

Are there no 20's in your division? What's up with that?

20's are pretty much located in the midwest.

Karl, Look at all those 17's in the NW. If they convert to the FX, you are going to have to do some serious traveling, my friend. I noticed that there are NO 17's in your part of the country.

Not yet, I've got the only one so far. Gotta be optomistic! Not everyone wants to sail around on a 30 year old boat

Karl,
you should come out west and race with our two FX Ones, spend the summer. Then we would have three, unless of coarse we get a couple more before summer. The more the merrier.

Saddly no 20s racing here though. You either start with the 17s or the Tigers. I prefer starting with the Tigers. The Tigers are growing here also, I think that there are going to be at least three more than last year.

Spinakers coming down the coarse thats what I'm talkin about!

We have some pretty die hard 17 sailors in the Northwest. I wouldn't expect too many of those guys to convert. Heck they are soo good I had to move on to the Tiger from the H17. Got tired of being in the back half of the pack. LOL.

The alure of the FX got me off of the Tiger. Although I couldn't bear to sell it. Still have the Tiger. It will come in handy. There is always the Nationals in Harrison, BC and the F18 regattas here.

Karl, I've been looking into the FX1... also the F16 and the N17... I just have a big problem finding people to sail the F18 with me. It's not like the 16 or 20, they actually have to know what theyre doing on the F18 (more than just taking instructions on when to pop and sheet the jib). F17's are fairly rare, F16 and FX1 are pretty pricey...I love the Tiger and I enjoy the F18 fleet in general...I just need someone to damn sail with.

Be the first in your area to get one. The FXone is in the same ballpark as the Tiger for pricing. You have to price out the options correctly. When I first looked at getting one I was ready to purchase a new one. I think with all the options and Tax I was facing an $18k price tag. But I was going to end up buying things that I didn't need, and now I wouldn't have wanted anyway. The two major things being the jib kit and the self-tacker setup for the jib. If you will be single handing the boat it doesn't make sense. I think the jib adds $1800, and the self tacker another 3-400. This is ballpark, I don't remember exactly what the cost were. I have wings and when I buy a new boat it will also have them, and the wings I have are about $1000. The spinnaker costs (I think) the same as the jib, so another $1800. An 08' boat list for around $13,500. But who actually pays full retail for something like this? A dealer quoted me $12,300 for a new boat. So a new one for me would be $15,100 + Tax. $1k less if you don't want wings.

Another thing to think about is this boat has kind of a goofy hull shape, so Hobie includes hull cradles for the trailer, and for cat-trax. That saves some money.

1,800 for the jib?? That sounds crazy to me; I can't help but to think I'd just buy an entire older H16. Not having a crew is what stopped me from sailing in at least 3 regattas last season, that's why I've been looking at some single hand boats. Although I must say if it came down to it, I don't know if I could part with the Tiger or not

It's the sail, rigging, furler, blocks, cleats, tracks and rivets. Like I said, unless you're going to have crew all the time it's just one more thing to do on boat that is fairly busy anyway. A new 16 with all the upgrades is about $8500 with no trailer.

The jib kit was about 1400 and it came with the self tacker.
The spinnaker kit was the same price, including the spin.
Boat with main was 14,500, I didn't get the Jib.
Totals
14500
1400
15,900+tax(1351.50)=17,251.50

This is about $100 less than the Tiger. Plus you fet 6 real nice custom fitting craddles. Four on the trailor and two on the cat tracks.

This boat was ready out of the box. I just added a spin snuffer, the "SNU" by the way is great. And off I went.
