When i am motoring fast under the bridges the top of the motor casing is taking some heavy waves and water crashes all over it. is this bad for the motor? can i get water logged and have it stall out? It there any way to get it to sit higher on the hobie mount with a johnson 4 hp?

Motor stranded us yesterday on the water for an hour. I don't know what caused it to not want to start. Maby just a little Murphys law. But when a two stroke is dead in the water, what items can help you get it running again? I have thought of adding WD40 and a spare spark plug to my emergency kit. any thoughts?
