Post subject:  WANTED: Ideas or Plans To Raise 21SC Out Of Water at Mooring

I am thinking of buying a Hobie 21 SC and would like to put it on my mooring in Mission Bay, San Diego. However, I don't want to bottom paint the boat and worry about the centerboard trunk getting fouled, etc. I want the boat out of the water and was wondering if anyone has created some kind of cheap yet effective way to raise the SC out of the water? Perhaps something made out of big closed PVC or ABS pipes would work?? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

I think the answer found on the other thread using dock floats and 2 x 6's is the way to go. Just do a Google on dock floats and you'll get several hits. Only othe comments I have would be to include some of that recycled plastic deck "wood" as a wear surface. That stuff is very slick, and barnacles are easy to knock off of it as well. Build in a mini ramp on one side of your floating dock so you can beach your cat onto it.

The other mention would be to do a search on this forum about mast sway and the stretching/fatiguing of shroud wires due to wave action.

good luck

I will get my 21 SE off the dock today or Sunday. I will take some pictures and will try to post on the forum. It needs some minor work and it will go another ten years. If only someone will tell me how to post Email pictures. The floating dock has worked well for 13 years I will also get some pictures of my friends Hobie 16 lift and maybe Matt can post those pictures as well.

You need to upload your photos to a photo hosting website, like Http://OVI.com or http://photobucket.com/ or another of your choice. Once the photo is hosted, click on it's "properties". Cut the URL. Then you need to open a new "reply" or "new subjet" window on the forum. At the top of the window you'll see the "Img" button. Click it. then paste your previously cut properties URL and then click the "img" button again. You're done. It's a PITA the first few times, but you'll get used to it.

Here's a quick example the "properties" (found by left clicking the mouse) URl for this photo is http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/0046/f9 ... 09e596.jpg but that by itself won't produce the image on this board. Clicking the img button and then pasting the URL does the trick. Image

ALSO make sure the "Disable BBCode" located at the bottom of the text window has the checkmark off. This for some reason would not allow me to see the picture, but if someone replied to the string, the pictures would show up. You should also be able to see the pictures if you Preview the post. Good luck

I also posted this on the Open Forum.... Here is a picture of Patrick Farmers 21SE in Florida. He keeps it rigged on a floating dock at GPS coordinates 30.098138,-81.633072, if you zoom in all the way on Google Maps you can see her from space.

I wish I could keep it rigged and on the water.

Hey guys,

I am also looking to make some type of dock that I can put in shallow water to store my 16 on. I am looking to make it and sail in Barnegat Bay NJ. Any pictures or drawings that anyone may have will help.

Currently people attached their boats to moorning bouyes. The dock would be located in approx. 3-4 ft or water. Please send any pictures to my email.

Thanks,

-Jake
