The mast diameter is the same I think I read that the two mast came from the same extrusion.

Bill, maybe they will give us a discount if I build them a new website, that thing looks like it was built in 1996 and hasn't been updated since.

At 500 or 600 lbs do we have a cost yet from Aquarius , Tom, what the new mast might cost?

I even emailed Aquarius directly and got no response frankly I can't imagine it would be worth it for them. mmiller do you have any diagrams or measurements for the comp tip that we could use to have a new mold built? From what I understand the comp tip is the same for se and sc except the mast head. I probably be able to fund a mold build and make some tips.

Can't a mold be pulled off of an intact one?

About half of them come out really easily. The others require a little heat to break down the epoxy, sort of like pulling a golf club head.

I would prefer to have a solid mast.... no comp tip.... I bought one of the last comp tips available and after a few years it is already showing cracks along the connection line..... and they are no longer available like the masts....

Is there any talk back from Aquarius whether this mast deal is a go ???

I'm in for one of them...

So far this thread seems to be for masts for the 21se, reading other threads it sounds like the 21sc mast would be the same extrusion, just a shorter length. If that is correct, expand out to the 21sc as well. Having just bought a 21SC, I would likely be interested in a mast as well, loss of a mast for whatever reason is my biggest fear.

If I can be of help let me know, my mailing address is Wyoming, MN, live a couple of towns away, but that is our post office and it less than a 15 minute drive to Aquarius sails.

Actually been wondering what it would take to get a group together to fund making the tooling and then turn it over to Hobie so they could make the masts again or provide it to supplier to make the mast. I agree, there is going to be more demand for the masts.

Their reply

Kevin,

The demand for Carbon masts has steadily increased over the years which directly effects the demand for aluminum extrusions. Unfortunately the aluminum extruder we have historically used changed ownership and is no longer interested in pushing the long extrusion lengths needed for masts. We are currently looking for an alternate source and hopefully can identify a suitable vendor in the near future.

If you are interested in a mast extrusion please contact Tom @ 651-462-SAIL and he can provide you with estimated cost details, etc.

I am purchasing a 92 21 SE this week. I would be interested in a solid alum. mast. I live in GA.
Thanks.

Bill,
Have you already had the masts extruded?
