I recently bought a 21SC. It seems to have the original standing rigging, and I'd like to replace it. Considering using Dyneema/Dux. Has anyone replaced the standing rigging with Dyneema? Any advice, thoughts, and comments welcome.

This is something I am very interested in as well. I actually ordered some Dyneema already along with some other stuff I am still waiting on.

dhaglund check out Colligo Marine. I found pre-made shrouds for the 21SC.
https://www.colligomarine.com/products/ ... shroud-set
I'm also replacing trapeze wires with dux.

Thanks for the link. I can actually get custom made Dyneema shrouds here in Sweden cheaper than Colligo Marine sells them. Also Colligo doesn't have an option for the 21SE that I have. It would however be very interesting to see what Colligo's shrouds look like. Perhaps they are better?

I'm also replacing a couple of the trapeze wires with synthetic.

I ordered 3 mm SK78 pure Dyneema for the trap wires and 4 mm SK99 pure Dyneema for the shrouds. No chafe sleeve as I like to be able to inspect the shrouds easily.

I looked into this as well. You will want shroud extenders for righting. You will need to slightly redesign the extenders to work with synthetic. Terminals can get pricey, but you can probably get away with plain eyesplices into shackles. I stopped just short of converting to synthetic because I didn't feel like putting in the effort to figure out the shroud extenders and terminals, and my shrouds were still in good shape. When I replace shrouds I will certainly go this route.

That said, here are the benefits I see:
Easier coiling, storage and rigging due to more flexible cables that won't kink or develop loose snake bitey frays.
Easier to raise mast and right the boat due to less weight aloft
Cheaper. Splicing is pretty straight forward and does not require a hydraulic swaging tool

You probably can't switch the forestay as the furler needs a stiff cable to twist up the sail.

John at Colligo shared these video clips which provides an idea of the set up even though it seems to be for Prindle.

I've have an order in for shrouds for my SC. I will share my experience with the board once I get it sometime next week.

That looks like an excellent setup! Clean and eliminating the need for shroud extenders altogether. Probably well worth the money.

It would be interesting to know how well finer adjustment of the tension will work. I know it is just another knot in the line but that knot will affect all knots further down the line. Maybe not a problem in real life? The other question would be how well does the knot stay in place when there is no tension in the shroud? For example when raising the mast. Perhaps a pin or plug could be used to keep the knot in the locked position at all times. It is hard to tell from the video if that is necessary or not.

Did you ever get the shrouds? Can you share some pictures?

Sorry for the late reply, but due to the Covid situation and restrictions did not get around to follow up. At any rate the Colligo Marine set up worked fine on the 21SC. The only issue I ran into is that the shroud attachment on the boat was slightly too wide to fit the .25" gap on the Colligo fitting. It was easily fixed by carefully grinding it down from .27" to .25". An overhand knot is used for adjustment points.

Does the synthetic forestay hinder the effectiveness of the furler?

Similar to Speed633 question, is the Lewmar block that's used for the jib also acting as the furler swivel or is there a second swivel?

I've only sailed the boat twice with the this forestay setup but it's working fine so far. There's no additional swivel only the one on the Lewmar block.
