Are there any options at all? Will the SC mast fit? Can I just get an extrusion that length and cutt all the holes myself and transfer the varous fittings? Current mast is just shot. Been sleeved once already just below comptip and I-point and comptip is starting to break up. Just not viable anymore, not the comptip or the alumnium. any thoughts would be welcome. I'm unusually handy with tools, former Grady-White prototype guy and have been a racing monhull from scratch so an ambitious fix doesnt scare me. the notion that there might not be a fix does...... |

There is no aluminum extrusion left of that length. The SC mast is shorter. |

boat viable? The SC mast is not the same cross-section? Do you know what company made the original extrusion so I could contact them? usually with those things, it makes the extrustion cross section, if not the same length, for several uses... maybe theyve got some still. Seems like, too, there would be an extrusion that's very very similar that could be adapted, but best chance of figuring that out would be someone who had stumbled across it already. Geez, this is pretty disheartening. So anyone who trashes they mast has to scrap the boat I guess. |

The mast extrusions are all Hobie proprietary parts. Extruders run minimums of the material in the thousands of pounds of aluminum. They do not retain the material. The supply of full length spares was exhausted a few years ago... it is now something like 17 years since the boat was last built. I can only suggest that there are rigging / mast manufacturers that can build from generic extrusion. |

Dwyer stocks sections that are pretty rounded/plump...non-rotating monohull style stuff.... the SE, like many cats with rotating masts, is more elongated in section. I'm thinking best bet is to find a more modern cat in 20-foot range with similar size mast, hopefully just a tad long, then by a blank and cut it down. Will be a tough research problem. For one thing, I suspect the SE mast is pretty long by 20ft cat standards. dunno, though, maybe a farrior tri. I've sailed on the 31 and that section is waay too big but maybe the 24 cut down, and then weld the socket fitting from the old 21SE mast into it. If I figure it out, will post it here, no doubt some other SE folks would find the project useful.... |

Mast off a T boat???? Or try Hall spars for a composite carbon fiber. Lighter to raise but bigger $$$$$ |

I don't know where you live, but there is a Hobie 21SC mast for sale on thebeachcats.com. Look under used catamaran parts. I don't know if it's sold yet because he said he was listing it on ebay but the price was $475 and it's in IL. |

I experienced similar frustrations about 4 years ago trying to salvage a 21 SE that hurricane Isabel beat up. The mast was broken and the pieces were bent. After a fruitless search, I put a Hobie 18 mast with a hobie 17 mast step attached to it and replaced all standing rigging with 1/16th inch larger wires and away we go. Used 18 masts are readily available as are used 18 sails. The boat was not as fast but still had all the comforts of a H21SE. Sold it to a fella that put it on a lake in Pennsylvania and he can carry more folks than anyone else on the lake. He loves it....... Now if you want to get your boat back to racing condition, this is not the solution for you. I still have my H21SE and sail it a lot but not in serious racing just messing around on the water. I almost kept the other one just for parts, but the hulls were in great shape and I had too many boats in my yard already. |

An I-20/Nacra 20 mast would also work. Expensive, but light and strong. |
