New to the Hobie inflatable world and LOVE my i12S. Im noticing however that if I take my hand off the rudderdrive for one moment my rudder spins to the far left or far right..spinning me out. This becomes difficult when I am fishing and want to quietly enter an area and cast out. As soon as I take my hand off the drive to cast..I lose my direction. I also want to grab stuff out of the dry storage but have to completely stop to do this because of the spinout. Is there a way to tighten the rudder line, or afix a latch to lock the hand drive in place so I can contine to go straight instead of a circle? Thanks for any advise or assistance in advance. Kat |

1st... be sure you are cleating the rudder down, with some tension to hold it there. If not cleated, the rudder would cause the boat to turn left as the rudder comes up a bit. 2nd... add some tension to the steering lines. This friction can be increased to make the steering stiffer and stick when you leave it. 3rd... If you are pedaling, and then stop, as the boat decelerates... it will have a tendency to turn due to the drive (drag) forward. That is pretty much the same as any power boat as well. Steering is best with some power on and gets more demanding as the boat slows. |

Ive been cleating and turning around to check that I have cleated it down fully. Being new..I realize this is important for full steer capabilities. It appears to be #3...as its mostly when I stop peddling and am trying to ease into an area slowly. Its been important several times now that I keep a straight line of entry, but its not allowing that to happen. Is it in the manual how to tighten the tension line? Im a gal and although pretty resourceful, have never worked on a rudder line before. Not sure how easy or not it is. Or would I be better off just taking it in and having a pro do this? |

It's not too difficult. Take a look at the Twist and Stow rudder manual here: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/article ... anual.html There are two screws on the rudder. One for the left line... one for the right. You can tension the line on either side, but if too much to one side, you can off-center the steering control.  Screw on far right is the (right) steering control adjustment. Screw at center of drum is the left steering adjustment. |
