I put my plan together last week when I flew from Iowa to Fort Myers Beach Florida where I store my i12 in my condo, I put a 18 lb Watersnake trolling motor on my i12, and it worked great, can use the hand rudder to steer the i12. this is my part list: one 2x4x5ft. Two 2x4x22 inches. Four 6 inch stainless steel turn buckle, four S-hooks, four eye screws. Two 1/4 x 6 inch J-hook bolt and nuts,Foor 3inch L bracket, Four Hobie tri-ring glue on patches, all hardware stainless steel because oh saltwater, center the 5 foot 2x4 on edge behind the seat on top of the 22 inch 2x4 centered on each side tube, screw the 22 inch 2x4 to the 5 foot 2x4 and a 3 inch L bracket on each side, screw a eye screw on each side of the 5 foot on edge 2x4, drill a 1 3/8 inch hole about a 6 inch turnbuckle away from eye screw, glue a Hobie tri-ring glue patch under the 1 3/8 inch hole, hook one end of the S-hook to the Hobie tri-ring and the other end of S-ring to eye end of turnbuckle and the hook end to the eye screw, tighten to adjust, the i12 is about L36 inches wide, giving you about a foot on each side of tubes for trolling motor, rod holder tubes and what ever you want to put on, drill a 5/16 inch hole on the top edge of the 5 foot 2x4 above the Hobie factory plastic eye, hook 6 inch J-hook to plastic eye, adjust everything to fit. Take care---Frank

Nice work Frank! Yep, pictures would be great!

So many questions...

How does the boat track with the motor off the side?

Are you steering with the motor or the rudder (or both)?

What's the top speed with 18lb thrust?

What's your battery setup & run time?

How long does it take to put that rig on & take off?

Thanks!

Thanks, the i12 tracks good, I steer with rudder and motor, when I was in Fort Myers Beach Fl. last week it was very windy every day, due to storm Sandy, on Calm water the rudder works great, speed was good, considering the wind, the Watersnake trolling motor works good for its size, weighs 6 lbs, I will try my 30lb MinAkota next tine in FMB. Fl. Pretty sure it would work good also, would need to shorten the shaft, the Battery is a Odyssey PC 925, weighs 26lbs, and will run it all day, can buy the Odyssey battery from Amazon for $172 and free shipping, can hook it all to gether about the same time it takes to inflate the i12, to save time I use zip-ties to tie the S-hooks to the eye side of the turnbuckle, all hardware go into the zipper pouch on the back side of the Hobie seat, only the eye screws on the 2x4 mount, no pictures now but will have some in my next trip to FMB. In January, very happy with this set-up. Take care--------Frank

Another thing I forgot to mention was that the 2x4 height on side tubes on the i12 allowed the i12 oar to fit good, also I tried the trolling motor on both sides of i12, left side worked best for me, same side I have my trolley anchor on. Take care----------Frank
