We recieved our kayaks, a i9 and i12, in late June this yr and I was suprised to see the spectra line steering installed. Sadly the i12's steering is starting to seize up....So after this season is over we will be returning both kayaks for the upgrade.

According to my Hobie dealer, if your steering spectra lines are a darker grey than the rudder up/down lines, you already have the "factory upgrade." The steel wire is the DIY solution, which they'll send you in a kit. Either way I'm careful to fold my kayak w/o "folding" the steering cable.

I'm now having this same problem with my Hobie i12s that was ordered in 2016, but not delivered by my dealer until January 2017. How do I reach out for assistance in retrofitting the lines?

Reach out to your dealer for help - they can get the skinny line if you don't already have it. The part number is 81054 (avail by the foot)

Only a dealer can do that - if they told you to file a claim - that's actually not correct.... at any rate - they can get you some string to try if you don't have the newer skinny style - also use some dry lube to help it slide...
