I was talking to a dealer about the inflatables and he strongly recommended not using braided fishing line while on the hobie inflatables because it can saw through the inflatables material. I have transitioned to braided line but use long rods so I think I can keep the braid away from the kayak pretty easily. The problem is if trolling with a downrigger that has braided line (to reduce the line humming), if the downrigger ball gets snagged the line the braid would be close to the kayak potentially could saw through the material.

Has anyone had bad experiences with braided line on the inflatables? Besides longer rods, any other way to minimize the risk?

As long as you keep the braid clear of the hull while a fish is running, you'll be fine. You definitely don't want that braid moving over the inflatable material. Not so sure it's worth moving away from braid completely.
