New Mirage i12s have arrived, advice?

Howdy,

Jut got two of the Mirage inflatables, i12s for myself and girl friend.
Got to try them out and still need to learn more.
One of them the rudder does not like to go up and down and is hard to steer. Will check it on the next time out.
They both are fun and we are using them locally, so we are leaving them inflated. Wanted to see how you are moving them around. Is there a good rack for them? Any issues with them being inflatable? Also what is the best way to store them inflated?

Any hobie or other accessories that we should consider? We are thinking sail kits next year, but any suggestions on how to improve the ride would be appreciated.

I occasionally have difficulty with the rudder up/down on my i12s. It always boils down to a few things:

1) The carrying handle on the stern is (puzzlingly) placed right under where the rudder rests when up. I watch it when using that handle as I think it can cause some issues to have the carrying handle and strap pushing against the rudder.
2) I sometimes get on the water and realize the bungie in the back right over the rudder is still over it.
3) I look for possible pinch points with where the up/down cords are. I've occasionally had that issue.


I love my i12s. Hope you have a lot of good paddling.

It is best not to store them inflated as temperature changes can increase the internal pressure and cause stress on materials and seams. I would, at minimum, release a small amount of pressure to prevent that type of issue.

Thanks for the info.

Will get some leash for the paddles, and looking at different ways to haul on top of the jeep.
Can the inflatables ride in a standard kayak rack mount while inflated driving short distances?

Any other words of wisdom is appreciated.

Speaking of leashes...

I have one on my paddle, one on my seat (those are expensive!), one on my Mirage Drive (Hobie makes one for this very purpose), one attached to my plug-in-wheels if I don't take them back to the car prior to paddling, and one attached to the YakAttack box I use on the back of the kayak to store whatever gear I'm taking with me.
