With the boat (board?) on the workbench, I see that there is a square notch into which a nub on the rudder on pull down fits. The nub is slightly out of alignment with the notch so that if it's pulled down hard enough to shift sideways a bit and engage, you cannot pull the rudder up from the controls amidships. Is this "lock" intentional? Doesn't seem like the boatspeeds are high enough to warrant this kind of lock.

Anyone know anything about this?? Any experience with it?? Thanks very much.

Are pictures on photobucket gone now?? (by the way)

the rudder lock down notch does seem a little tight / like overkill. i have succeeded in the past at pulling it up from the controls, but i always feel like i'm going to yank the d-ring out of the deck or rip the cable. when landing i mostly do a trick that someone talked out on here: just uncleat the rudder line so that when/if the rudder hits bottom it will just pop up. makes the whole process easier, honestly, as you still have rudder control while coming in.

when i was still pulling it up with the rudder line, i found working it from side to side a bit with the steering control while pulling helped loosen it.
