I just went on the Everglades Kayak Fishing 5th Annual Paddle-In, a 12 mile round trip excursion through Chocoloskee Bay, Indian Pass to Indian Key for a picnic gathering where the host (EKF) had conch chowder, Bratwurst and fresh fruit for the attendees. There was a good turnout of about 70 yakkers maybe more. Heading out with the tide and returning with the incoming tide was easy going. With the less direct route back fishing it was over 13 miles round trip.

I highly recommend the trip even just for a liesurely day trip. You must plan your trip with the tide. It runs 2 -4 mph and working against it for any distance is brutal.

Oh what a beautiful paddle! -er, pedal! I've marked this on my calendar for next year. Looks like a lot of fun to have such a far-off and tiny destination. Must be exciting watching everyone come in. (Especially if you are there before them!) Thanks for sharing your great photos. I had examined the area via Google Earth after you posted about it, and it is cool to see your actual route.

Hi Becky,

I was really surprised how liesurely the pedal actually was. I was concerned of the distance at first. I am not a spring chicken at 53.

I noticed two pictures got messed up so I am reposting.

That's a nice photo of you and your Revolution. Did you catch any fish?

Hi Becky

I should have spent more time around the islands fishing and less time in the channel. I was mezmerized by the new location and sights. Not to mention the wildlife including dolphins & manatees. I only caught a jack but others got some trout, lady fish, snook and others.
Kayaking was great, Fishing was fun, catching was so-so.

Hi Kep & thanks for the comps,

It was a beautiful day and trip. I was surprised how liesurely a paddle (pedal, I never paddled) it was. Barely broke a sweat the entire 6 miles out and 7 or so back.

I would do it again in a heartbeat but plan much more time fishing around the outer islands during slack tide.

I had not been to the 10,000 Islands since I was in my teens many moons ago.

Great photos. I have lived here in Florida for 12 years and have not done the paddle in. I will next year. Keep it up great shots.

That looks like a beautifully sheltered area for Kayaking. I am going to make this one of my destinations. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great post. Plenty of pictures and descriptions, plus a map! Thanks for sharing the tips on tides, launch site, your age and effort required for the trip.
Being in my late 50's it gives me the confidence to make the trip. Planning on going in mid Nov. this year for some fishing out of my Outback. I'll share my experience then.

Thanks Revo!

Great trip, great pics. Always wanted to do this. Do you know if EKF does it more than once a year ? Unfortunately, I'm up north June thru Oct.

Hey Johnny,

A little late in a reply but better late than never. They only do it once a year in February. 2012 will be February 11th. I have attached the web link. I have booked it again and might do Sand Fly Pass or perhaps just go straight out Indian Pass and fish out around Indian Key before the picnic. I have gone '09, '10 and '11 and had a blast each time. I am looking forward to it again.

That time of year again. This weekend 2-16-13 the Annual Paddle-In event at Everglades City. I will be going with friends out Indian Pass, hit the picnic, fish the Gulf then return Sand Fly Pass.
