Just south of Tampa and Ruskin is a very nice place to Kayak, Cockroach Bay. It got the unusual name from early settlers who call the horseshoe crabs in the bay "cockroaches". There is a lot of flat, shallow water around the mangrove islands which keeps the power boats out of the area for the most part. The fishing and sightseeing are excellent. You will see manatee, dolphin, pelicans, bald eagle and much more. Check it out on google earth.
Just got a outback and this has been a good place to break it in.
