Hey guys looking at maybe getting a fishfinder. The main reason i want one is for depth readings and warnings when it is getting to shallow. Do any of you guys recommend any particular model and do they have a minimum depth?

Hobie offers three different fish finders made by Lowrance. They all work very well and would suite your needs. The most basic one is the Lowrance X50DS which has a black and white display and a dual beam. I have been using this fishfinder for over a year and have been very impressed with it. If you want something a little nicer, the Lowrance X67C offers a color screen and a few more features. Top of the line is the Lowrance M68C color fish finder/GPS combination. Check them out in more detail on page 20 of the Hobie Parts and Accessories catalogue: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/kayak_catalog/eKayakCatalog2009_Fall.pdf. Hobie also offers the appropriate mounting accessories and fish finder installation kit - everything you need to get dialed in and on the water.

I've got a Humminbird 798 jobbie installed. Bit extream but fun to play with...
Due to it being a side scan unit the transducer must be installed below the hull with visibility out to each side rather than a look down transducer inside the hull.

Cheers guys, so all the lowrance models come with transducers that you can put in the hull like in this vid?
