Post subject:  Hobie/Trailex Trailer Crossbars - Dimensions

Can anyone out there measure the dimensions (cross section) of the Hobie/Trailex trailer crossbars? I have a trailer on order with a narrow timeframe to get it rigged for when the new boats arrive. I am working on fittings for the crossbars, but can't do too much without the dimensions that include the outside, location of the slot and the inside dimensions of the channel.

Here are a little more specifics in case anyone has already figured this out. I plan to use Rhino-Rack fittings on this trailer and I need the measurements to determine which attachment package to get to attach the cradles to the crossbars.

Either way, other people may need the measurements. So, it would be nice to have them here.

Thanks for your help!

Mark,

I have the Dbl/Dbl - The crossbars are 8 feet (96").

Hope that helps? Need a picture?

Mark.

Mark - Thanks for that info, but the bar length is the only dimension I don't need. I'm looking for the cross section dimensions of the bar (looking at it from the end of the bar).

Thanks and can't wait to hear about you getting on the water.

Dang, I put this topic under the wrong category. Is there a way to move it to the right category?

Hopefully - this is what you wanted. Let me know if not, I can try again.

Cross Section of 8 foot bar.

This just looked cool.

My trailer which was the double-double came with enough hardware (8 bolts with nuts) to mount the Hobie cradles. Which trailer are you getting? And, am I correct in guessing you need the info for the bolts?

I purchased the Double (not Double/Double) for the TI and Adventure (not AI) on order. I also ordered the TI cradles from Hobie, but for the Adventure I am going with Rhino-Rack cradles, which have proprietary mounting hardware that they claim will work with almost any mounting rail. I just needed the dimensions of the rail to order the proper mounting kit. Rhino-Rack doesn't post the details of their mounting hardware. So, I'm going to provide them with the dimensions of the Trailex rails and they can then deliver the right mounting kit. I actually already have the Rhino-Rack cradles.

At least I'm not alone... I love searching the boards for trailer mounting information only to find other desperate souls searching for helpful intel before their new boat arrives. I've found it's rather difficult without having the boat on-hand however! Somehow I don't think the Oasis will help too much in determining cradle location/orientation for the new TI. So, it's off to the 'search' button I go again but at least I feel less alone.

You might find this post useful: TI Cradles &/Or Templates.

The recommended spacing is 67", but the trailer I had made up is 72" (6') as you can see in the plans. Unfortunately, for best weight distribution on the trailer, my TI is not sitting on the cradles at a particularly good spot, such as under the drivewells or scuppers. I'm considering adding a third cradle in the middle (as well as adding the bow support), as the TI is stored on the trailer.

However, the Hobie Trailex no doubt has somewhat different dimensions.

The recommended cradle spacing is 67" for AI according to spare parts catalog.
Is it really the same measurement for TI?
I have modified a Thule 8114 trailer (Easyline 450u is the name in Sweden) and is waiting for my cradles to arrive. It was easy to fit an retractable square tube for the keel roller on the trailer.

G'day Bo... yes, the 67" spacing is the same for the TI. There's a post somewhere where Matt Miller confirmed this. Probably in the Transportation & Storage Forum.

[edit] just found the post:What distance between Tandem Trailer Cradles?

If you have 67 inches between the cross bars you can put the carrying handles on the TI right above the cradles. Works great.
