The knob is a wonderful idea however I do not see it in my catalog but was able to find them online.
I sail in sometimes fairly rough seas and strong winds and as a result my hand is extemely sore by the end of the day.
I would suggest adding a full size grip handle that the knob can be added on top of. Having large hands this would be a wonderful addition.
In the meantime, what are threads used so I can add a grip?
I have ordered the knob and my 2011 is stored at the Marina 30 miles away so I have no way to check this.

I put an 8-20 eye bolt in my front steering knob to use my combo whisker pole/tiller extension. Happens to be same as camera mount, I use it on my camera extension pole.

I am performing this update on my 2009 AI after the existing handle broke. I ordered all the parts as suggested by Matt. What was very strange was the steering crank. Instead of a T shaped crank like the 2009 model has with bolts on its ends, its an L shaped crank. Attached is a photo Image

Do i tie both rudder lines to the end of the steering crank? Is this the correct part for 88991281 Hobie steering crank? If anyone can confirm it would be appreciated,

Cheers,

AJ

AJ,

I think they've sent the wrong item. That looks like the rudder lift crank. The same happened to me.

I also thought this was the wrong part as i could not work out how to attach it to the rudder lines. Can u share a photo of the correct steering crank?

I have already tried returning this part to the online store i purchased it from to be told its the correct part. They are currently returning the photoed part back to me. Matt can u confirm visually if this is the correct part for the steering crank to suit the new steering knob assembly or is this a stuff up?

Ammo,
I don't have the know-how to place any photos, even if I had one. Try this link:~

http://www.kayakfishingmagazine.net/art ... rade-.html

The steering crank is a "T" shape. Mine had a few bends put in it by design, because of the age of my boat.

Hope this helps

Ger

ps. Note that this will have similarities, but is for a different boat, therefore is not exactly the same.

The crank is correct. The steering lines both attach to the one side, but one is routed forward to a turning block first and then back to the crank.

As shown here (Tandem shown... same concept):

This L shape crank is the current style used in the Adventure and all tandem models. The left steering line connects to the crank, then goes forward to a pulley, and finally back to the right side of the rudder assembly.

If you are trying to upgrade an older style, you can either install a pulley like on the current models, or use the T shaped crank used in the Revo/Outback.

Here are the current cranks used:

The top one is the Sport crank. Below that is the Revo/Outback crank. The bottom left is the AI/TI crank and the bottom right is the Oasis/Outfitter.

Ammo,

I apologise. Listen to Matt & Bcastile. It appears I'm behind the times.

Thanks so much guys, the photos and diagrams help better visual the upgrade and give me some options. I will probably go down the pulley path to use the new steering crank.

Can someone confirm the harken pulley to buy to complete this upgrade? Also the ideal location inside the AI? I am assuming it would be infront of the mirage drive hole?

Hey Matt

On this line I bought 4 knobs and they came as just that...the knob.
I asked about and found the thread count so I have the mounting screws but should there not be a top cap? Is that not generally included?

The knob assembly # 8891355 is a kit that includes the knob, cap, bolt and a washer.

It is possible you ordered / received just the knob part? 88991351?
