A few people have asked about my trailer and some of the modifications I've made. I realize that not everyone is using a trailer, but perhaps by sharing these pictures it may help to give people some different kinds of ideas. I also know that I'm very fortunate to have the resources that enable me to build things like this. I will gladly send sizes/specifics to anyone who asks.
My Trailex SUT-350-S Trailer with a 18' 7" long pvc mast carrier made from 5" pipe. I'm using 3 Hobie saddles mounted on top of 3, Trailex (52" long) crossbars.
Image
I drilled holes in the end of the pvc cap for better ventilation, and replaced the black bow roller that came with the trailer with a non marking 3" Stoltz roller. A aluminum support bracket holds up the end of the pvc pipe.
Image
There are 2 stainless steel strap brackets bolted to the underside to help support the pvc pipe. One on the rear and one on the forward crossbars.
Image
The middle section of the pvc pipe had to be heated up slightly so that it would fit in-between the frame and crossbar.

I can easily slide the entire mast and sail into the pipe, place the end cap on and go. I really like knowing that it's all safely put away for traveling purposes. (Material costs for just the PVC Mast Carrier approx: $150).

These are the 6 stainless steel brackets I had made because I wanted my web tie down straps to run flat to the boat. I used parts of the Trailex strap clip and welded short threaded ends on to it with an adjustable backing nut. (Material costs for SS Web Clips approx: $50).

As seen in some of the previous pictures, this is my stern roller system utilizing a Stoltz ULT-4 roller.

This particular roller fits the shape of the TI hull much better than any others I have tried. It's very convenient when launching and retrieving from a boat ramp. I used the aluminum brackets from the stern roller that came with the Trailex trailer but knocked out their pin, removed the small black roller because it didn't fit the contour of hull, and used a longer 10"x ½" hex bolt with 2 bushings made from ½ " copper pipe for additional spacing. (Material costs for Stern Roller System approx: $38).

Thank you all. :)
I hope to show some of the other things I've made as well, perhaps next week. A strong mounting bracket for the Windex10 http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?pat ... 1&id=81034 Wind indicator so we can mount it to our masts, and some really cool foam stuff I found to keep the water "geyser" from coming up through our mirage drive plugs.

Very neat and tidy sunE. We might all just sit back, put or brains into neutral and wait for you to come up with all the ideas, and then if they work, we can copy.

Where did you find 5" PVC. I've called every where looking for that! Please PM or email me at [email protected]

Angel,

Yes, 5" is a bit tricky to find, and especially the fittings. However I was able to purchase all my material and the end caps from an industrial plumbing supply company called Turner Industrial in Ft. Pierce, Fl. http://turind.com/

Because of the kind of business I'm involved in, I have an account there, however if you call and speak to the owner (Charles Turner) perhaps he can direct you to a supply house in your area who sells the 5" pipe. They are absolutely the greatest people in the world to work with and if there's any way that they can help you, they will.

Say hi for me, and feel free to call me if you have other questions.

got up to the cabin and the AI and trailex trailer this week-end. to answer my own inquiry - NO the 4" tube will not work. too small to slide over the roller furler on the mast.
oh well, it was a good thought ant way.

I can't get 5" here either.

My thoughts are to use 4" for the long stretch terminating in a 4" to 6" coupler, then 6" for the last 18" of the carrier to accomodate the drum.

I'm still in scavenger mode trying to find a piece of scrap 6" somewhere so I don't have to buy a full 10 ft. section.
