Hi folks. I bought a cleat and fairlead from West Marine and this is the layout I'm thinking. The line runs straight from the drum at an angle to the fairlead on the right side of boat as shown. I need to go get a new furling line about 2 or 3 feet longer. This is for backseat single-handing the boat. Thinking about doing the Watertribe NCC event and casually getting ready until I make the decision! Looking for advice before I drill holes!

and this is only for when I'm on the TI alone, so no problem with it coming through the front cockpit. When sailing with 2, furling is the job of whoever is in the front seat. |

Hi Matey, I have just purchased a T1 recently myself and while browsing through youtube came across this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJuuymSuBLA the beginning of the clip shows how they've set up for one man rear seated sailing. Personally I think it's a great idea, hope it helps. |

Just a couple of comments to be sure what you have will work. The furling line has to have something to feed it onto the furling drum at the right level. IF it is too low or at the wrong angle it will foul as it winds on and jamb. The other is the cleat has to be a good one. Running on a broad reach with a furled sail in high winds puts a ton of pressure on the cleat. If it uncleats on its own the results can be exciting Been there and done that. I have a cheek pulley on the front bar on the left side of the boat and bring the line back to a second harken block on the rear bar on the opposite side from the other. Keeps the line at the right height and secures well. If you add things to the aka bars you will have to tap the holes and cut bolts to the just right length to be sure not to interfere with the insertion of the akas. |

I just tie the rear mainsheet to the furling line (over the rear aka, not under it) and really haven't had any problem cleating and uncleating the furling line from the aft seat. No need to lengthen either line, they're long enough as they come from the factory. I've done this with and without a front seat passenger. Haven't been in 20 knot winds but it works fine in 10-15 knots for me. |

I will try going out with the tying to the mainsheet idea, but it seems that the furling line itself is too short. Do you start by pulling the mainsheet and then grab the furling line... would need to be a good sturdy tie for that. I can get a bit more length by unwrapping the line a couple times while sail is out but then it doesn't bring the sail in 100% If these no wind, 100 degree days would stop, I will get out on the lake for some experimenting! |

Ditto, tied main sheet to furling and both are factory length. No major issues. I did add a wedge to the furling cleat which helps for seating the furling line from the back. |

If you're single handing it, the front mainsheet can be as short as possible, leaving plenty of length for the rear sheet. As an old sea scout I used a sheet bend to join the furling line. |

Took a short cruise on a big tourist cat. Tried to connect with Nohuhu but didn't succeed. So happy to be home so I can sail tomorrow! Ten days away from my yak is too long! |

You should have flew over to Maui for a day or more. I has a great week with 5 sails over 6 days last week, and we still had empty boats available. Next time.

Arrrrgggghhhh!! I was so missing sailing durning my 10days in Oahu. Next trip I'm going to Maui! I'll let you know well in advance. Are AI & TI for rent there? |
