Good eye Matt, I had the same problem with my old hull, kept rubbing it with the handle.

Both "tillers" were a hit this weekend. They liked it so much, they barely ever let me sail the boat.

Matt, thank you for pointing out the upgraded handle and washer.

Marc,
Great pictures to match our great weekend! Good job on the tiller extension and "child friendly" steering handle. Looks like you're kids are having a really good time commandeering your vessel. May I suggest that before they organize a full blown mutiny, you may want to get them their own boat.

Marc,
Another example of, "necessity is the mother of invention."
Great job! And I agree with sunEsailor, people have been lost at sea for less!

Sure. You could use this part, or you can screw any type of handle grip you want into the 1/4" 20 count socket on top the tiller.

NOHUHU, are you sure that is the correct spec. for the socket? I just got my new AI hull and urgently need to get my tiller extension set up. I notice RAM mounts have a 1" ball with 1/4" 20 TPI male thread. That opens a world of possibilities.

That's hilarious Chris. I was just looking at this item a few minutes ago for use with the RAM suction cup base, for camera-mounting on the bow, etc.

Yes, the threads are right. That ball might not have enough thread on it to screw into the tiller's socket but it's worth a try.

Very interesting observation. I think it would look badass with an eight ball logo on it (or pirates flag). 8)

Yeah, the thread in the rudder lever is recessed a bit, so it will probably only go in about 3½ turns. Still, with a bit of Loctite, that might be enough. Anyway, I've ordered one, plus a couple of adaptors which result in a RAM ball clamp attached rigidly to the end of a piece of ½" or 1" pipe. I have to wait for the parts to arrive from Nevada    , so I'll report back in a week or two.

I've got one of those suction cups. It sticks fine just forward of the front crossbar, but the hull is too rough or too curved further back. I was fiddling with it earlier today and I was actually able to lift the end of the boat with it.
