The Hobie tool is nice, but requires a bit of hand fitting to get it to really work well. It's a bit too wide and blunt on the edge of the pins. Although, it's probably a better starting point than a socket.

But, still nice a job on the too. Very well done and being able to use it in a socket wrench is a nice idea.

I initially used pliers to take the first one off but there is quite a bit of plastic cuttings in the threads of my boat, so some fittings are extremely hard to take off. After the pliers slipped once, I knew I needed something better.
I needed:
1 a deep throat to fit the extra bungee thickness
2 space for one hand to press straight down and steady the tool
3 lots of torque, controllable torque
4 high strength
5 very precise fit
A socket seemed to fit all of these.

nice work, ....on the eyelets i just use a screw driver thru the eye like a t handle and twist it off and on the T ones a simple pair of pliers ( or locking ones) to grip and twist off

Thanks!
Just a fyi: I used an angle grinder with a cut off wheel to cut the socket, the steel is hardened. A hacksaw won't touch it.

Cheers,

J

I like the idea of the socket tool as well, nice work Km7. 8)
I have the Hobie tool and it is a bit awkward to use- especially if the fittings are tight.
I'm thinking I should grind a slot into an old socket so the Hobie tool fits - saves a lot of delicate grinding work.
Thanks for the idea. :)

I just changed the bungees on my amas and I used a pair of needle nose pliers. I scuffed a few of them up a bit. I'm glad you posted this. I think next time I'll cut up a socket. The Hobie tool looks like it would work but some of mine were pretty tight so I think it would be just as difficult with the Hobie tool. Thanks for the post, looks like a good idea.

Hey guys check this out!
