TI ama buoyancy?

Post subject:  TI ama buoyancy?
Does anyone know what the ama on the TI will support? And how far apart are the aka holes on the boat/how much room is there between the akas?

one ti ama will support me but not both my girlfriend and me. I would hazard a guess around 250 to 300 pounds.

fill one with water, then measure how much water is in it while pouring it out. That will tell you the volume, which can be used to determine buoyancy and displacement.

I thought I saw a figure of 60 litres for the AI which sounds about right, 1 litre supports 1 kg or 2.2 pounds=132 pounds support (imperial, -the weight of the object). The figures for the TI must be around somewhere.

KM7, humans are buoyant, and in the water we only require about 20lbs of floatation.

If my mammary serves me well, I think that women require slightly less. :wink:

I think Roadrunner once quoted the buoyancy of each TI ama at 220 pounds.
You wouldn't be thinking of building a Cat using TI amas would you? Gee, come to think of it, that's an interesting idea. 8)

I should have been more specific. When standing on my haka, which is directly over the ama, it floats. If there are two of us, we sink. It is likely that the other ama and haka were counter balancing the one we were standing on but I would estimate around 250 to 300 pounds of floatation. We didn't sink very fast...

Makes sense. I have sat out and fished/ cruised right over the TI Amas and one seems to support my 185lb dryweight just fine.

But with no girlfriend or big fish, I didn't take it to the limit. :(
