Post subject:  Line Management - Rigging

I rig my sail lines so that I can easily reach it from a relaxed seating position without having to lean forward. The problem with this is that the line always migrates off of the tramp and into the water, dragging behind me. The main sail line is worse when it's completely unfurled. Has anyone come up with a way to stow the lines so thay can be quickly accessed. I was thinking that a retractable reel (similar to a dog leash reel) might keep the line contained without actually adjusting it. (My lines are on seperate side of the boat; reefing line on port, main sail on starboard.)

I use the pockets, either on the tramps or on the boat.

You could start by trimming the sheet and reefing lines and tying them together.

After that, I just throw them over the tramps, or Hakas, when possible. I don't care for stashing them in the cockpit, cuz they get hung up on anything. I let them "drag" in the water when I have to.

Main thing is to keep them away from the rudder, the pedals and your legs. On my last couple outings they got wedged in the drivewell and daggerwell.

Lines caught in or through the drive well and daggerboard well, especially with beach landings, can get pretty chewed up quickly. Our first AI's required replacing the reefing lines before we realized what was causing it.

Also lines dragging in the water will drop your speed about 1/2 mph, enough to let me catch and beat you in a impromptu race. 8)
