This is the "Surf To Summit" seat that I've been using now for over six months and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

For my purposes it was well worth the money (about $190). I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs more back support and sails for more than a few hours at a time.

I'm on the water for anywheres from 4 and 6 hours a day. The 2" of foam padding on the bottom keeps my butt a little higher up so I'm not sitting in as much water as before. My back doesn't hurt at the end of the day like it used to, and that's a real good thing for this 60 year old Sun E Sailor :) .

This seat is very supportive, adjusts easily and holds it's position all day long. They offer a Speed Clip attachment if you prefer that over the traditional brass type, as well as different accessories and Packs that can attach to the back of the seat.

I didn't have to drill any new holes to install it. I just swapped out the two fittings from behind the original seat with Hobie's Eye Fittings (Part# 7116001) and used the existing Eye Fittings in the front to attach the 4 brass clips.

That's it... D.U.N. done. It couldn't be easier .

Great folks to deal with, excellent warranty. Check it out:

You don't know how close to the truth that is  .

Two weeks ago I went on the longest ocean sail ever - 12 hrs. 35 miles! I sailed from the Jupiter Inlet in West Palm Beach back North to Martin County. On the return, the wind died down and for a while I was really nodding off. Concerned that I wouldn't have the strength to get back, I went ashore for a quick dip and ate the fruit salad I had packed for later  . Good thing there's no TV on board  .

You are killing me sun E sailor... Because of you I had to drop another $152.15 on your seat...(Austin Kayak with discount). It is hard keeping up with the Jones!!!

yeah, after reading this thread, I found a kayak shop locally that carried these seats and was able to put one in a kayak to sit on and try out. It sure did have a nice feel to it and I liked the design with the channels in the seat to keep you out (somewhat) of the water.

So like everyone else I'm $200 poorer but I think it will be worth it. Especially on longer trips. Thanks for posting this Sun E

Jim, Where did you find this seat? I don't want to be the only one awake! Looks like the storm will leave us Saturday and Sunday for good sailing. Where will you be Saturday morning? Maybe I'll join you.

Mahalo Chris! Ya brought me to my senses. I'll keep the $200.

It might be nice to use at my desk though,...

Larry, Osprey Bay on Belcher between Drew and Gulf to Bay has one of the seats in stock (with the small bag on the back). I ordered one from them with an attached dry bag as a convenient place to put my lunch. I really do not like the Hobie seat and am looking forward to a change.

I'll probably go out this weekend in the Dunedin causeway area if Tropical Storm Debbie doesn't take the wind away with her. Give me a shout if it looks like good sailing.

NOHUHU ... I spend a lot of time perched on hakas but find that there are still a lot of situations where you must sit in the seat for performance.

So far from what I've seen, I think Austin Kayak has the best prices on these seats at $179.

I don't know how Steve got one for $152. He must have had some kind of other discount that I'm not aware of.

Keep in mind that their Speed Clips http://www.surftosummit.com/speed-clip- ... th=199_255
might be easier on the attachment points then the brass clips. You just have to request them when ordering your seat. I have the brass clips with a little web material around them for cushioning because I think they're stronger.

Has anyone put one on an AI and will it keep your butt out of the puddle of water. Might be well worth the $200.

Y'know, this illustrates an important point. Whether you go for the StoS seat or not, any kayak seat can be used which has the usual straps at the back to stop the seat slipping forward. This means the accursed seat posts on the standard Hobie seat are not strictly necessary. This in turn means you can put a bit of padding under the seat to elevate it up out of the pond that forms in the seatwell. I tried it with my Ocean Kayak seat and a couple of pieces of EVA foam and it looks promising (on dry land). I'm sure it's not as comfy as the StoS seat, but hey, the price is right.
