I read the the 57 pages and looked at all the cool modifications to create a haka seat on both the TI and the AI. I have a TI and would like to run a full length haka seat so I can hike out a little from the rear seat where I like to steer. I was thinking of installing an Xbar assembly behind the rear seat and running a piece do tubing through it to support the rear of the haka seat. Any thoughts on my idea or has someone already completed the project and give me some advice on how to support the rear of the haka. Thanks Chrisj - I thought some would have already build something similar to what I'm thinking except the tramps don't work for me, 6'4" 230lbs the snaps broke the first time I sat on my tramps and I would like a higher seat to sit up a little. |

Cantelever Hakas as always an option for hiking out from the rear algough you cant get back as far as you can do with the Ti3 Cc |

230LB is a lot of weight. Even for the TI3 design. Most of the hull/Ama floatation is concentrated in the front/center of the boat, so hanging a big slab of meat off the rear does tend to sink that area and creates drag, along with rudder stress. Still, a third rail seems like the best option, unless Jholt wants to fly from the front position. Lemme know offline if you need advice on this. |

Thanks Nohuhu I would like a little help on this, I plan to pilot a little forward of the existing rear seat, across from the drive to trim the boat out a little. The plan is to order a Xbar, left and right AKA, 2 brace assemblies and a couple of brace posts. Mount the new Xbar behind the rear seat, cut of the two AKA arms to an undetermined length and build a 4 board haka bench and bungee it to the AKA's. I'm sure. There is a lot more to it than that but won't know the pit falls until I run across them, you could be a big help in that for sure. I have been reading the haka bench seat topic and not seeing the rear aka except for one photo, but have not finished the topic yet, it is really long but quite fun read, I'm surprised Hobie hasn't provided the option yet, it would make the sailing a lot more fun and a flatter ride. I sail off west Maui just south of Napili so 15 to 20 knot breeze almost every day and withstand tramp deployed you have to reef a lot or your going over, hiking out would be a huge advantage. I'm doing the same mod. I've got all the parts, just haven't put the time aside to install it. You are welcome to come down and check out what I've got. All based on the great TI3 I got to ride on by NOHUHU and Batman. Batman actually made me a great set of plates to reinforce the inside of the hull for the 3rd aka x-bar. I feel a little guilty I haven't done it yet. |
