This one is what I would buy for aftermarket. It uses good material, however it's sewn on. The thread will come apart if not taken care properly(not rinse every trip). 3-4 years in good sunny part of the country.

I bought the Hobie tramps because I hate to rinse tramp after the trip, I usually just put them in the bag after the trip.
Hobie heat weld their tramps, so there is no thread to worry about. My $.02

That looks like non-mesh material, which would be totally unsuitable. Are these the ones made by the Amish?

Yeah... solid material... bad idea.

Thanks for the tips.

What interests me is the front triangular splash guards seem to wrap up and "over" the bow of the kayak. I've watched a lot of videos of AI and TI owners with the OEM models and there seems to be a gap or space between the edge of the fabric and the boat, which appears to allow a lot of water to splash up between them, making them less than as effective as they could be.

I know the splashy factor is part of the experience, but if there's a way to suppress it at least some, I'd like to do so. The Chesapeake gets pretty cold!

Maybe I'll ask the seller if he has a mesh material available.

I pick up my '17 AI today!

I bet you just made kayakingbob's day by referring to his splash guards as OEM. Hobie doesn't make em!

Secondly, good luck expecting that vendor to also offer mesh guards...

Made my own for a couple reasons - one of which was that I did not want to give up the option of being able to paddle with the tramp rigged: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP ... JaRW5TYzBR

As far as splash guards go, they were calling out to me until I got a loose-fitting 2-mil neo hoodie like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflex-Wetsui ... a+neoprene
Sized way large so it fits over a life vest.

One of the most generally-useful articles of clothing I have owned.
