I say that this is the proper attachment of steering lines: - Lines joined so that one coming loose does not result in the line maybe retracting into the bowels of the hull . - Lines secured under the screws by a washer pressing down https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP ... JaRW5TYzBR But on the replacement rudder assembly I recently received: - Lines are not joined, with obvious consequence if one comes loose. . - Lines are "Secured" by just a single half-hitch under the screws - and without any washer https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP ... JaRW5TYzBR This seems pretty egregious to me - albeit not very difficult to correct once the user catches on to what's happening. But am I the only one? Maybe Greater Minds Than Mine have determined that the new way is actually safe? Or maybe the "New" rudder is really a very old rudder and Hobie has corrected things since it went into the retailer's inventory. Replacement rudders are not "finished" as a boat would be. This attachment is done in the boat assembly area. |

This is my setup at the rudder housing:  I've drilled a hole in the wings of the rudder, threaded the rudder lines through and tied them off. Then I've used 2 SS screws to attach an aluminum extender to each side of the rudder housing. To these extenders, I've attached external rudder control lines, just in case something happens to the internal lines.
