In the interest of a faster set up time I got a sailmaker to add zips to my tramps.
It now takes 15 seconds a side to fit the tramps, which is a lot quicker and less fiddly than-
-unclipping the bungee retainers
-unrolling the tramp
-doing up the 5 QR clips
-tensioning
-clipping the two bungee retainers back together.
Packing up is also simpler- just undo the zip!

To make the zipper easier to get started and to take pressure off the slider and stopper my sailmaker made it longer than the tramp.

I use haka so the tramps will only be holding gear but the zipper handles standing, kneeling and sitting on the tramp OK. I weigh 80kgs.

They fold up easily for storage

Time will tell how well they last but so far I’m loving the convenience.

Wow, very cool!

Was it expensive to install the zippers?

I don't have tramps, Stringy, but that is very impressive!

Let us know how they fair. My kids PFD has a zipper and it’s a pain when sand gets in it.

Thanks all for the comments.

Pro10is -it cost $75AUD/side to fit using YKK Vislon #8 zips. I was happy to pay that for the convenience. The older I get the more I find fitting the tramps to be a real chore, especially as I’m getting a bit of arthritis in my fingers. I left the zip choice up to my sailmaker. He had to add some vinyl so the zip could be sewn to the tramp. He overlapped the vinyl so it covers the zip when closed, giving a bit of UV protection.

I learnt a lot about zips when I was researching this. I wasn’t sure if a zip would be strong enough. Turns out they are quite strong when closed. The crosswise strength of the chain is over 100lbs/1” on a #8 zip. On a #15 zip its as much as 327lbs/inch. If I wasn’t using haka I would have chosen a larger zip.
I’d like to know more about the forces that a trampoline gets subject to. I know in cordage that the forces on anchors in a span line at 120 degrees are the same as the weight of the object on the span. At 150 degrees though, the force is doubled at the anchors, so the tighter the line the greater the force at the anchors. A really tight line at around 170 degrees could subject each anchor to 6X the load!
If you look closely at the loaded tramp pics above, the vinyl covering has opened up fairly evenly all the way along. I guess a trampoline spreads out the force along the aka bars/buckles or zip in this case.
It must do as I had no problems with the zip when standing on the tramp!

Nice idea (I guess you still need to unroll them on both sides now?)

What I do:
- Before moving the aka out I remove the bungies and unroll the tramps (much easier with aka still in)
- Hold the clip in the middle, move aka out and clip the middle one first, then the first 2, rest is easy
- When finished sailing: unclip all, move aka in and roll up and bungie

Thanks Prettig and Tony.

I don’t roll up the tramps at all. When packed up they just sit in the hull as seen in the last pic above.
