Hey guys -
Thought I'd ask the experts for some help. We have an '17 Oasis that is standard - no mods yet. I have Muscular Dystrophy with major loss of strength in my arms and hands. I'd like to put a knob on the tiller so I can move it to steer the kayak. It's almost impossible for me to steer as it is. My question is can I just take the tiller off (the shaft won't drop down into the boat will it?) and add a large knob on the end. This would give me something for my weak hands to hold and more leverage to steer with. Any suggestions to make it easier to steer?

John

Have you seen the tiller knob assembly part #88991355 that screws straight onto the end of the tiller?
BTW- You are cleating the rudder down hard? An uncleated rudder makes for heavy steering.

Yes, that's what I plan to add but it's my understanding the tiller must come off to put them together. My question is will the staff drop inside the kayak when I take the tiller off? I can reach up in there to hold it in place.

You don’t need to remove the tiller. The tiller knob screws straight in as is from the top of the tiller end. Removing the cap on the knob exposes the screw.
