We have a lot of deep fjords, rocky bottoms, as well as some sand and mud... In other threads they suggest the Cooper Blue Nylon anchor (1kg). But these seem to be designed to dig into sand and mud... How about those rocky bottoms we have here? Would those even work? Could y'all old salts spare any advice for an anchoring newbie? Anchors generally exist somewhere on this spectrum: Lightweight and single purpose -----------------------------------------Heavy and Universal (Engine Block, Fishermans Anchor) Plow anchors like the Cooper Blue Nylon should work well in the sand. Plow anchors can work on the rocks if they are large enough to get a bite and strong enough to handle the point loads. I have no experience with this particular anchor, so I can't say. The Cooper anchor would likely have very little holding power in the mud. A small fluke anchor will do well in the sand, and OK in the mud. It would struggle to catch on the rocks. Parting advice: size an anchor for your required trust level. If you need something to hold in a storm, size for it. If you want something that usually holds you can go a lot smaller. |
