I have tried several and this seems to have worked the best so far. I decided to do the shield and nets all together. Sun shade screen at WalMart. I got the clips at Lowe's, seem to work ok but might change them out with grommets later. Have not had the winds to really put it to the test.
I sometimes go out to pedal for exercise in the morning when the wind is not blowing but the sun it hot. Needed some shade so built a holder for the umbrella. Does the job.

Phil interesting setup. I realy need to come up with a good spray deflector,I'm usually soaked head to foot after a good sail, keep us posted as to how yours works.

The shade cloth works well, letting the water and wind drain through but stopping the spray.

The only improvement I'm thinking about, is a raised nose on the Spray Skirt to deflect from strait forward.

Phil...Do you use your dodger when you fish? I am going to be fishing off the Florida coast. I want to make sure that if I use a spay shield and dodger that I will be able to maneuver around inside the cockpit.

How did that material hold up for you, especially around the holes where it mount to the dodger hardware?

I haven't fished with or without the dodger yet. One of those things on my list to do.
Kayaking Bob...the holes for the snaps have held up just fine but have not had the ultimate test yet!
I ended up making a shield like yours. I did leave out the pipes. I put them in at first but had too much bias stretch so took them out and just used line.I think I am going to call it done for now.

On another problem, I had the front fiberglass rod in the dodger break right behind the ferrule. My dealer said they didn't have parts and pieces for the dodger. So...if you break one you can get rods here

I like your spray skirt video...just wondering how difficult it is to manipulate your sail rig with the dodger installed???

Not hard at all. Uncleating in high winds can be a bit tough due to not enough room at the top of the dodger. It just may take a couple of snaps with the line to get the job done.
With the new Hobie tramps I don't foresee the need for any other nets or dodger under most circumstances.

Just got my new Hobie parts brochure with the AI tramps...so it looks like i'll now be able to take passengers as long as we don't weigh over 350 combined lbs ?? :D

Glad you'll be able to take family out, the tramps should make it a lot easier! I haven't used the tramps yet but my girl friend doesn't complain to much about the tankwell :)
