So that would be condensation from your breath; dew would collect on the outside of the fly. When I park out in mine I'm able to feel the Hawaiian trade winds blowing through the hammock. How much separation between the fly and the hammock do think is needed? I have about 12-18 inches. I just rigged the fly 12 inches above the hammock line and used bungies to pick up the slack when the hammock sags under weight.

Sorry to trot out this ancient photo of my hammock yet again, but the setup with the fly has stood the test of time. As you can see, the fly is on a separate ridgeline, which is held taut by the drive acting as a counterweight, so the fly won't sag, no matter how wet it gets. Never had a problem with dew or condensation.

Nice, very slick idea.

Spot on Reefmon. Condensation not dew. You got me on a technicality.
Yep, once I saw ChrisJ's setup, I copied it.
I noticed though Chris why I had a problem with condensation and you haven't. Your fly is the smaller one. Mine has square sides not triangular so entry for yours is a lot easier. Hmmm....if you have never had a problem with rain entry I might convert to the smaller fly. I have one but have never used it.
I understand what you're saying Keith. Hammocks aren't for everyone. It took me a good 3 or so nights before I could get really comfy. I'm glad I stuck with it though.

Yeah, I have the hex fly too... It does cover up a lot more of the boat.

Russ, I've only camped out once in heavy wind and rain. I didn't have a problem with getting wet, but as I recall, I tied the sides of the fly down to the gunwales, instead of the amas, so it wrapped more closely around the hammock. I'm not sure if that was necessary, but it felt more snug in the miserable weather. I imagine that was an invitation to condensation, but I didn't get any on that occasion. Might have something to do with the ambient temperature.

Hi everyone! Some amazing information, discussion and photos in here which really assist with prepping the Hobie for expedition / camping trips etc. I am really excited to get my boat and gear up to speed to do this!

I created a new thread for camping with the Hobie Island so thought I would link to it here https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=67389

Hopefully this reply triggers an email notification for some of you who have contributed to this, as it would be great to hear from you in the new thread! I thought it is a good idea to consolidate some up to date information there in the new thread given the forum here can be quite clunky with multiple pages and be able to have some new photos etc, as a lot have been lost when tinypic/photobucket disabled them.
