I know I've posted this before but I haven't really got any others yet that are better. Can't compete with your magnificent blue water Bob but at least it's equal coverage and no, Chrisj and I weren't racing! :wink:

Yeah, very cool pictures!

When the wind picks up and I’m going really fast, the Ama that’s bearing the load can be completely submerged with maybe the handle just skimming out of the water like a little shark fin. I’m still too new at this and think I’d find myself much too occupied to be able to get a picture of it.

If that happens for more than a few seconds, reef the sail just a little bit (3-4"), and you'll go even faster! :)

Thanks for the tip, sounds like that will help with my rudder control dilemma in gusty wind conditions too.

Those pictures are so motivational!! I haven't taken any as the camera would not survive for long in those conditions.
What a great boat though huh. Puts a stop to any doubters that this thing is alot of fun!! Thanks for sharing and keep em coming.

Okay, I have a question for you Bob. How would you describe the water conditions in this photo? Wave height, period, etc.
This looks very similar to conditions I have experienced on a local lake, and I am trying to determine wave height. All the waves were wind-driven, and I feel like they were at least my eye-height, because I was having some trouble seeing over them while sitting in the AI.

That was a low wind day for there and was probably as big as they got that day.

But with that said, they were about 3' wind waves which puts them about overhead, while sitting in an AI (since we don't get all the way down between close waves like that). Very close period, depending on the day. I'm not usually at a stop in them, so I'm not sure of the period. Maybe 3-6 seconds?

That's in an area we sail through between two different wind patterns. Maui has two mountains (volcanoes) and shaped like a peanut. The valley between the two creates a funnel and doubles the wind speed squeezing through it, so on lighter wind days, we sail in the bay for better winds.

BUT, when the wing finally picks up, we need to sail out through the building wind waves (normally 4-6') to get further down the coast, to lighter winds. This can be some of the best sailing of the day! (Also where rudder pins like to break.)

I find it's hard to photograph the wind waves to show their size, but how's these:

if you look just at the water around the boats, you just see a bit of chop, but where did the boats go? :)

Yikes. That's a little scary... but DO WANT. I thought the 3' wind waves I was crashing thru were exhilarating, but now I can't wait until I get some 15-20 mph winds on Lavon Lake so I can REALLY have a blast! Good thing no power boats in their right minds get on the lake when the conditions are like that...

Great shots Bob. I haven't ventured out in anything like that yet but give me time. Are there any rules or ways of estimating wave heights, ie:"When the horizon disappears behind the crest of a wave, it's ??? high."
....................or words to that effect ?

Slaughter, you'll have to come "outside" on your next trip to Broken Bay. On our trip up to Maitland Bay, Stringy and I were disappearing to halfway up the mast in a 1.5 metre swell. It's alarming at first but OK once you get used to it. The difference is that we were in a gentle ocean swell, whereas Bob's photos were taken in choppy wind waves - much more thrilling :shock:.
