Met up with JohnL who is a new AI owner on Sunday 21 Nov for a day trip around Pittwater. Launch site was Bayview where there is usually ample free parking. Have to watch out for all the early morning paddlers and dog walkers though. I got there and had to wait for a car spot. By the time John got there heaps of people were leaving and making room.

Launched on a high tide which makes life easier at this location due to the expanse of shallow waters off the boat ramp.

Headed out north of Scotland Island then into Morning Bay to check it out. Leaving the bay we decided to head for Portuguese Bay on the western site of Pittwater for lunch. Bit of tacking involved getting out of Morning Bay then a good trip up to Portuguese Bay.

Only one other group on the beach other than the goannas and magpies. Got to test out the new coffee filter and watch the world pass by before enjoying a fantastic reach back down Pittwater and completing our circumnavigation of Scotland Island via Elvina Bay. Arrived back at Bayview about 1600 in time for questions and answers with people back in the car park.

Lunch in style. Fresh coffee and wondering what those without AI's are doing.

Hi Cowsgomoo

Nice neat report and pics-is that a white pointer on the beach? Let's have a sail in Syd some time. Can you do a Mon or Tues from Northbridge around 10am, the harbour is uncrowded and unchopped by the growing fleet of 50' cruisers mid week?

Dave, there were a few white pointers about. Definatly weren't bull sharks that's for sure!

Sure would have liked to have been out there again today. A bad day sailing sure beats a good day working as they say. Unfortunatly work kind of pays for the AI toys so I'm kind of stuck with weekends most of the time.

I recognise that island! Visited from the UK some years ago and stayed on Scotland Island with a couple that my wife knew. Saw the biggest spider I'd ever seen in my life... (jumping spider or something... prefer UK spiders as they are little).

Yeah, we got rippers here
Huntsman spiders are pretty common inside houses set in the bush. Of course we've also got the funnel web, wolf spider, orb weaver (not really dangerous but weave huge webs across paths and sit in the middle waiting for something tastey - like a small child). The list goes on....

Saw a snake at one of the popular tourist lookouts the other weekend. Was pretty quiet at the end of the day and it moved from under a bush next to the track as I was about to leave. Just wonder how long it had been there with all the visitors walking past. He was pretty cute but got away before I could get a decent lens out to photograph him. Much rather a snake than a spider....

Looks like it was a great day on the water,

Just joined this site, was at pittwater 2 weeks ago at the same spot ona AI testing it as am upgrading for the Hobie outback, there was a good wind and have never felt so free sailing along so close to the water.
Looking forward to the sydney boat show when I will be picking up a new AI, and hopefully meeting some fellow AI sailers in the Sydney area :D.

Sorry about the double post did not think the first one took

Andrew
