Here for a week, couple days ago went out with 16YO son, he was on the AI, I was on the dingy.

Its on the California Arizona border.. below Lake Mead and Lake Mojave on the Colorado river The link below "might" work..

There is a trip I want to do there one of these days with the Hobie AI - put in where I40 crosses the Colorado river and take out at the town of Lake Havasu (site six on the island).

Great shots of Havasu, thank you.
I see you went up the canyon, tons of peddle work I assume as the wind usually blows downstream. Well worth it though, imho. My wife and I rented a powerboat there last year and were awed by the scenery. We went as far as the cable bridge as the wind was howling that day in January of this year.
If anyone is unsure of the Lake Havasu area, it's a nice desert town in an area that has huge rec potential. That Includes obviously boating, off road desert running, etc.. The nicest RV parks are on the 'Island' that the London Bridge connects to the mainland. It can get very windy there in the Winter, yet the average temp is around 70 degrees (less the wind chill)
As the Colorado River is the Border between CA and AZ, it's within a 2 hour drive from Vegas and a bit longer from LA.

Im hoping to sail my AI at Lake Havasu in Feb with a dry suit. FYI, I usually launch at three different places, all free. First is Rotary Park. No trailers allowed so you have to car top. You can also launch on the island near a free beach area at the south end of the channel. This year, I trailered the AI from Denver and launched from Site Six near the end of the island. Picture below is from site six. The AI setup and launch from a trailer is super fast and easy. I discovered a new problem however.. At this launch, you have to take the boat over to some guest docks while you park the car. The small tri is not real friendly for getting on and off at a dock..

Hi walt, I'm (still) trying to get a trip from Davis Dam to Parker Dam together.

My trip plan is basically: Guide Map 1, Waypoint 1 To: Guide Map 5, Waypoint 6.
About 88 mi in 4 days, 3 nights. I think that's reasonable?

To accomodate your trip would be: Guide Map 3, Waypoint 4 To: Guide Map 4, Waypoint 4 (I think that's our haulout?).

Either way, it's a great reference and prints out for water proofing/lamination very nicely! I hope it helps you to plan your trip and when I get around to it, I'll try to give you a heads up. Summer would be nice, hopefully this year!

Sort of related to this thread.. These pictures are from this last weekend at Lake Havasu - just under 200 trailerable sailboats from all over the US and Canada are here this week. This spot is about 6 miles south of Lake Havasu city and would make a nice Hobie AI trip (Im here with the sailboat this time).,

I somehow missed this post. Great photos again Walt. What a spot. Love No.5. If only it was taken this year it could go in the 2012 Photo Comp. You'll just have to go back and take it again. Rules is rules. :lol:

My kids had already been sailing for a number of years but I got the AI when they were about 12 and 14 (boys) and both kids had no problem sailing it even in some winds that scared me watching. The older kid now 17 could spend all day on the AI. I personally think this is an absolutely great sailing craft for a kid.

Three years ago, we took the AI to Lake Powell (sort of in the same part of the US as Lake Havasu) and towed the AI behind the sailboat along with two small kayaks. Both kids spent a lot of time sailing the AI. This should be in a lake Powell thread.. but some pictures of this trip - the kids are sailing the Ai in all the AI shots. http://analogengineering.com/sail/powel ... l2010.html

SedonaAI, thanks for the link - I book marked it. We will probably be in Lake Havasu late March, sometime in June, then again in late October (at least I hope).
