Judging by this forum, a lot of AI and TI owners live in warm climates. Warm water sailing is just a dream for those of us in Oregon and other northern latitudes -- a dream we realized recently on a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. Kelly Harrison of P&P Kayaks in Kona has a TI and AI that he is willing to rent to visitors with experience. (These were the only rental Islands we could find in Hawaii.) We had a great time sailing off the Kona coast for four days. Sailing in shorts and t-shirts is way preferable to drysuits. We had never done any ocean sailing before, but the waters on the lee side of the Island are pretty protected. There was 12 foot swell one day which made us a little wide-eyed when we passed through the waves on either side of the harbor entrance, but conditions were mostly pretty benign the other days. We sailed off beaches a couple days, which made it easy to switch off among members of our group, so some could swim and snorkel while others sailed.

We had to transport the boats on rental vehicles, but the factory rack on our Dodge Caravan worked fine for the TI so long as we were on reasonably smooth roads, and foam blocks on the roof of our rental sedan worked well for the AI. Kelly gave us a fair deal on the multi-day rental, and lots of good advice on launch points.

Anyway, just thought that other Northerners who might have been having similar dreams would be interested...

Kelly is a great Hobie dealer!

If you ever come back and stay on Maui, let me know.

Great report. Never had the pleasure of meeting Kelly, but hear only good things.

Hope you and others will post some picts of your Hawaii sail trips here.

There's now a company in my home town that will take you out on guided TI sails and lessons. The fishing sucks, but the scenery is to die for.

One tip - Us thin-blooded locals wear rashguards or light wetsuits to stay warm,.. It gets freezing cold out there! 'Specially in the front seat of a TI.

Wow. Enter that one in the Photo Competition. No-one can prove whether it was taken in 2012 anyway.
