Thanks KayakingBob. Next trip is the Content Keys about 24 nm one way. That is if the girls approve it! We would love to sail over to your island group but we are pretty sure our women would deny passage of any sort! Lol!

Nice report Honusail. Where did you land/camp on ECS? Near the pilings? How did you navigate that 28 mile or so open water crossing? Did you set up a route or just use a GOTO on your gps?

I know the crocs are very active in the area in late March. I wonder how long that lasts. We were there about March 20 a few years ago and there was lots of signs of croc, and we got some great pictures. People can read about that trip at http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&start=45

Tarpon? Were there lots of tarpon around? I'm becoming obsessed with getting a video of myself or someone fighting a tarpon from an AI/TI. Do you have any suggestions for a lure to troll for tarpon? I'm thinking of going out on Tues this week--3 day trip.

Randy,

Looks like you had a nice sail. I hope that you can get the time to do next year's EC. It is starting to be a "Hobie" event...

Keith-I programed a route and had Sandy Key and Carl Ross Key as a fall out. Once over the shoals close to Marathon it was a pretty straight shot. We landed a bit north of the pilings. I think the croc season "officially" starts in April but I'm not sure for how long. The noseeums were real hungry! I have not fished from the TI and we did not see any tarpon. I used to troll a Mirrorlure and Rapala from my Cape Dory sailboat when I lived on Ft Myers Beach and had good luck with Tarpon. I'd go for a sardine, makeral, silver and red/white in the Rapala saltwater XRap series or Mirrorlure. Get a shallow diver in the XRap and some model of a topwater one. Crush the barbs on the treble hooks or better yet change them out to two hooks in the front and one in the back so you can release the fish with minimal trauma.

Paul-You guys did a GREAT job finishing. I'd love to enter again if I have time. If my friend is not up to it, I may breakdown and buy an AI and run that. I'm kind of leary trying the TI solo for that distance on a tight schedule of deadlines.
