A couple of AI guys down this way bought aftermarket boat seats which replaced the fabric seats using a home made aluminium bracket that lifted the seats a few centimetres. That coupled with the padded seat cushions had the advantage of combining comfort and keeping the bum mostly dry as it is well up out of the water.
Recently I bit the bullet and did the same and I got to say it is a great improvement to comfort when sailing and fishing. Only caveat is to be used with at least one amar as it would be unstable without. I have mine arranged so swapping them over takes only a few moments so nothing lost there.
I guess others around the world have done the same.

I am pretty tall so being up higher would make me really have to duck when passing the sail overhead.

Same here but it is not an issue. Also the extra height puts you above the sheets and lines which seems to improve the ability to be in total control. I love the position now and is much easier on my old knees when getting in and out of too..Pirate

Ppiker,
Maybe it is because I sail from the front seat in my TI, but I am 6'4" and I have my padded skipper seat on top of a swivel (1" high) AND a 1/2" marine ply plate sitting on the rails. The only time I have to hang on to my hat is when I have the full sail in hard for windward tacking, and then the bottom edge rubs on my head on the way past. The rest of the time, it is no problem. Yesterday I sailed for 6 3/4 hours with no comfort issues, so the seat works...

Nice set-up Tony. Your seat is up higher than mine but it doesn't pivot like yours. Have you been tempted to use it without amirs as a kayak. Bet it is less stable..Pirate

@ Pirate,

I'd be very interested in seeing how you set the seat up - particularly how you attached it to the A.I.

I'm currently going through the installation process and would appreciate any ideas or tricks and tips from someone who's already completed the job.

Cheers,

Mike.

Pirate, I would never even attempt to use it without the amas with the seat that high.
