Hey Walt! That's unique.

Been missing the shots of all your boats, with the pooch and the kid.

You give us an inland "adventure" perspective we don't get enuff of. Welcome back.

Good pictures, Walt. I'm think of bringing our AIs out to the Rockies this year, even out to Washington State. Where are you located in CO? Where have you sailed? I'm thinking of doing Glacier & Yellowstone NPs this summer.

I will post some more Havasu pictures in this thread a little later (getting ready to go out again this morning.. windy forcast again).

I live in Denver but mostly use the AI at Elevenmile state park (google to find). I put together this water hike map http://analogengineering.com/elevenmile/route.html It can be a windy place and I almost always wear a dry suit but its a great place for the AI. If you find yourself in this area and want some sailing company (I havent done the three island trip yet, would like to do that one), send me a PM.

A couple other lakes in Colorado you might try are Dillon and Grandby

I'm familiar with Dillon. Lake Granby looks nice in GE w/ good camping. I also plan to do Platoro Reservoir (highest in US) and Mix Lake--beautiful. Powell Lake and Bullfrog Bay--Hite's Crossing area would be interesting. Navajo Lake/San Juan River (world-class trout fishing) down in the 4-Corners area is interesting since you can include a trip to Mesa Verde NP. I plan to take a couple yrs to do all of these & more. I've kayaked, camped, and/or fished most of them, but I thought it would be great to do them in an AI.

Other possibilities are Flaming Gorge--beautiful place, Jackson Lake outside of Jackson Hole, WY, at the base of the Tetons (Grand Teton National Park), and lots of reservoirs.

LOTS of wind! Would hate to be paddling in that.

On our boats, "The wind is your friend!"

Walt, Thanks for sharing your pics. Be sure to join our Southwest Hobie Island Club on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/southwesthic

We are based in the Phoenix area, but will have an event in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Lake Havasu Paddlefest (tentatively scheduled for 11/2-3/2014) and hope to have our own regatta held during the same weekend as the Fleet 88 Hobie Cat regatta at Havasu next Spring.

Thanks for the info of the get together.. possibly..

One more water run that I have not done - but think it would be a really good thing to do. This is a trek from where I40 intersects the Colorado River and Site 6 in Havasu through Topoc. Its about 21 - 25 miles and down river. It would go by too fast with N, NW winds we had the last few days. You have river current for maybe 15 miles of that. You would need a shuttle between where you launched and retreived. Shuttle distance is about 25 miles. With no wind, I think it would still be easy to finish in a day. With a strong S wind... maybe pick another day You have to watch grounding which would almost for sure happen.

Smart tie off system you have there on the Eagle.

You sure got a lot of quality miles on that old AI. So have you figured out a lighting protection scheme for our plastic yachts yet?

I am always very concerned about being on topic so felt this was a completely appropriate place to put this.. uh.. sure..

So I was up at Elevenmile res in the South Park area of Colorado yesterday doing some digging and saw a Hobie TI drive by so went to check out who it was and it was some folks I had met though the local club. I ended up getting talked into going sailing - which was a very good thing to do. The forecast for yesterday was windy and this is at 8600 ft elevation but we all had proper gear (I was in a dry suit) so it was very comfortable. This is where I also really like the AI because it has such a huge wind range.

Pictures from our sail yesterday at 8600 ft elevation South Park CO (one of the reasons I like the AI - lots of fun on this lake)

A small group are going to camp up there the weekend of June 28/29..
