Just curious if anyone has taken a TI trip around the Ten Thousand Islands area of South Florida recently. Wondering what Irma has done to any of the popular camping spots and what changes there are.

We’ll be headed down in January. I’ll give a report when we get back.

Totch--not much is changed. We did a trip out of Chokoloskee to Pavilion 10 days ago, and it looked unchanged. The sand is beautiful and firewood was plentiful--that won't last as people go out to the area. These outer islands have experienced many hurricanes and survived them in tact.

One thing to note was there was a plenty of debris in the water. You can especially see a lot of trees and branches sticking out of the water during low tide. It's all over but not really that big of a problem for our Hobie Islands. I hit a submerged log on the way out but didn't have any damage to speak of. Just scraped the mirage drive a little and hit the centerboard.

Still beautiful as ever out there like Keith mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to my annual trip. I’ll be staying on Helen Key on the northern end of the chain.

I’ll be interested to see how the old dome houses off Cape Romano fared.

MechanicMike who was also with our group camping told us he sailed out to Cape Romano the week before and said 2 of the dome houses are gone from the storm.

Made a trip to Helen Key last weekend. Looked like Irma changes up Cape Romano just a bit. The shell mound about a mile offshore from Cape Romano looks like it’s no longer a bird nesting place (maybe they come back in the spring).

Looks like two of the dome houses collapsed but otherwise they survived.

It was quite cool in the evenings but I bundled up and slept well. Best part - NO BUGS!

I would post some pictures if I could figure out how to now that there’s no photobucket.
