| Post subject: | Seat mods for A.I. |
I hate sitting so low on my A.I., would love to sit higher like on the Pro Angler without spending a whole lot of $$. Does anyone here have any ideas/suggestions? I was thinking about a 'Stadium Seat', anyone have experience using them? Thanks. |

I tried a mesh stadium seat. It got me out of the water, drained very well but the back rest didn't work well for relaxing. It was almost a 90 degree angle that kept me sitting in basically one position, straight up. I learned that I needed some adjustment to seat position. I've had great success with a couple of these on my older TI. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221650701534 Little bit of finagling required - 3D printed up some plugs to drop snugly into the seat scupper holes, and some angled feet to go on the front to nestle nicely against the angled sides. Works brilliantly, sits a little higher and a lot dryer. Nice and light. Adjustable backrest angle, but obviously not the range of adjustment as the later Hobie seats. Not as cheap as I would have liked, but much cheaper than a new TI with the newer seats... Don't have any pictures, but can take some next time I take it out. |

Sorry for the late reply... first time I've had a chance to get it out. Pics here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7b2nhU5eG3bks2Qz6 The 3D-printed parts were only in PLA, so they've actually withstood a number of trips (including into salt water) better than I expected. Have yet to experiment with ABS, but have a roll there that I might try to make these parts up with shortly. You can see how the PLA has started to warp/bend on the angled feet. 3 x 3D print pieces: - the angled "feet" that just slip over the front legs - no fixing required for those, they stay on by themselves. - The drain plug "plugs" that fill up the drain plugs and help prevent the seat from moving around. - A "sleeve" that fits into the plastic rear leg mounting holes, so that I can then use the smaller diameter (silver) aluminium posts that locate into the drain plug holes. I think this design places fairly low stress on any part of the Hobie - the rear bar that goes across the back of the seat takes most of the weight and spreads it across a fair distance of the Hobie seat base. |

It's only NOW that I noticed that forsythem said this was fitted to a TI - not an AI. Doesn't even come close to fitting in an AI. So I'm working on plan B now which involves making a PVC frame to mount a cheap Bowline folding tinny seat from BCF. |
