I'm finding it really difficult to mount accesories on the AI. The only space to fluch mount rod holders and gps is too far forward to reach. The best way I can think of to mount a lot of accessories is to attach mounting rail that goes from the front outrigger rail to the rear. I'll try an upload a diagram of what I'm trying to do in the next post. Just wondering if anyone else has come up with a good way of mounting GPS, Rod holders, Sounders etc. |

I have an I-H2O gps unit, which has a fairly large color screen for a handheld gps. But with my eyesight, it isn't very useful even mounted on the side gunnel. My 26ft sailboat has a 7inch Lowrance GPS, which requires an external 12VDC power source. I have thought about transferring it to the AI, but I am worried about carrying a 12VDC battery (weight issue) and where and how to run the wiring. I noticed from several forum fotos, AIs that appear to have larger gps units which require external power sources. Where do you store/mount the battery? Does the battery weight effect stability, etc.? |

I hear you loud and clear. My GPS is a Garmin 450s. It's a combination sounder / plotter. I think it's the perfect size for the AI. As far as external 12V, that's not a problem. I've seen this done on many kayaks. Typically, a 12V sealed lead acid battery is used - it's the same as most motorbikes use. This is placed in a water tight plastic container (even an icecream container) and sealed with silicone sealant. The wiring is normally popped out through a drilled hole and again sealed with silicon. Luckily, the transponder for the sounder can be placed inside the hull, so that's easy. only problem is you get hull temp reading - not water temp. My prblem though is how to mount the unit so I can reach thge buttons and easily ready the screen. The previous post shows photos of the GPS mounted right at the front. Can't be reached from there. |

Did you anchor tie-down straps somewhere to hold the battery stable... If so, where did you place the battery... I assume amidship for balance...but was it placed in the storage area behind the seat? |

I found lithium batteries giving 20 AH, end weight only 3 kg. Yes, they are expensive but the wight is only a third of lead batteries. These batteries are the ones beeing used in electric cars, because of their reduced weight.

I just got a new minature waterproof video camera/recorder. I thought at first about putting a couple of pvc tubes together and just sliding it into one of the fish rod holders. But to get any good shots the tubes are so long they will obstruct the mainsheet. For those videographers who have had success in being creative on mounting their cameras, I would appreciate learning how you were able to use your camera, get good shots, and not dump the camera overboard! |

Hi Take a look at RAM Mount, they do a lot of good stuff: http://www.ram-mount.com/ I have tried it for many years on boats, bikes, motorsycles and they never loosen. |

Road Runner- I don't need to mount any accessories but the "fish measurement" markings you put on your side rails is a great idea! I can't believe I've been struggling with fish measurements all this time..........I guess I'm just not very creative. Thanks, that idea will help me keep from going to "Redfish Jail" for keeping one outside of the slot limits! |
