I want to store a gaff in the side paddle holders and trying to figure out how long the gaff needs to be. Can someone measure the distance for me? My boat isn't readily available.

58 1/2" between the front and rear aka supports on my AI's

I made a fishing "hammock" that holds my gaffs, even when rolled up against the hull if in rough water. When fully opened it's a great place to lay out all my gear instead of digging in the center hatch. I can also paddle over it, if landing in small shore break without having to put everything away.

Thanks for the quick response! You saved me from buying a 4 ft gaff at the last minute.

Nice work too.

Jeremy, the gaff doesn't have to fit above the akas. There is a moulding in the hull to allow the paddle to sit up against the hull in the original Adventure, so the length of the gaff isn't critical. I carry a handspear that way, in case I find myself in negotiations with any of our local great whites.

And I think I've problema with seals! Can't imagine how I'd feel about the 'possibility' of great whites!

The drive down the freeway to the water is the really dangerous part. You can't fend off a Mack truck with a handspear.
